Meet the Author
Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing. Her trademark is writing sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life.
What she loves most about being an author is creating new worlds and sending her protagonists on a journey with ups and downs that leaves them changed. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing. Some of her contemporary and paranormal romance novels are bestsellers on Amazon.

Some Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have any favourite authors and/or books?
Way too many to name. Among the writers I admire most are Anne Rice, Deborah Harkness, Margaret Atwood, Jane Austen, Nora Roberts, and Michael Ondaatje.
As for books, that is even harder to answer. If I had to pick a Top 10, I would definitely include Interview with the Vampire (or The Tale of the Body Thief), Jane Eyre, The God of Small Things, Pride and Prejudice, A Discovery of Witches, and The English Patient. The rest varies.
Basically, there is no genre and hardly any author that I don't like or book that I don't devour.

How would you describe your writing style?
A little bit of everything. I focus mainly on romance novels and novellas, but I also write poems, and there are a dozen partial or waiting-to-be-written stories of the mystery, fantasy and science-fiction kind that I might publish one day. My 'trademark' are multicultural romances.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
From everything and everyone. Seriously. I'm a good observer and keen reader, and I soak up ideas and motivation from life itself. Visual writing prompts can also be very inspiring.

Any tips for (aspiring) writers?
Be yourself. Don't give up. Write, write, write - practice does make perfect. And read as much as you can!

Do you write German stories, too?
So far, I am concentrating on English romance novels. I might translate one of my books or come up with a German novel in the near future, though.
