About the Book
At a house party a midnight gallop on a purloined horse leads Lady Sophia Walker into something she wasn’t expecting-a marriage proposal.
Barely knowing Lord Peter Gardner, 7th Earl of Modbury, Sophia devises a unique plan to make sure they will get along.
What neither realizes, there’s another, Lady Agatha Crumbly, wishes to become Lord Gardner’s countess and will stop at nothing to achieve her goal.
Returning to London Peter lives up to his promise. As they learn about each other he soon finds out she has an affinity for a certain flower. To help prove his devotion to her he proceeds to deck out his town carriage in them.
As the date of their wedding quickly approaches Lady Crumbly makes another appearance, this time threatening Sophia.
Will Lord Peter Gardner arrive in time to save his beloved from death, or will the other win what she wants?
Excerpt
“Fear not, my dear daughter. You’re not in trouble with Lord Gardner. It would appear he and Father have concluded the marriage contract negotiations. The meeting is so the document can be signed, that’s all. Don’t worry. Your father made sure you were well taken care of and have a comfortable allowance provided,” the countess told her.
Sophia breathed a sigh of relief on learning she wasn’t in trouble and she’d be looked after. However, there were several conditions she wanted included to assure Lord Gardner not only had affections for her, but would keep his word in regards to his horse. She bestowed a smile and curtsey to her mother before she excused herself then quickly and quietly made her way to the earl’s office.
After making sure the room was vacant, she slipped in and found the document in question resting on top of his desk. Taking the quill pen from its holder she dipped it in the inkwell and added her codicils at the bottom. That done, she sought out Dawne and changed into her riding habit.
Last night when she rode Scarlett Show she’d not wanted to risk going over fences but now was another matter altogether. Today she would try him over a few rails but in the riding ring behind the stables.
As she made her way to the barn, several of the ladies and gentlemen guests joined her, all congratulating her on being engaged to the earl and enquired why she was dressed for riding. Not wanting to spoil the surprise, Sophia decided to keep her own counsel.
“Might I suggest everyone wait at the fence line as I’ll be out shortly,” she politely informed her followers.
A few minutes later, with Hanbury at her side, Sophia rode out on Scarlett Show to the oohs and aahs of her friends.
With a few whispered words to her mount, she rode the massive beast around the ring getting the feel of him as she was riding side saddle. When Sophia received a nod from the stable master, she waited until the man was clear, for both their safety, she turned the horse to the jump.
Clearing it with ease, she asked Hanbury to raise the rails a little higher and repeated the exercise.
Pleased with herself, not bragging as it wasn’t ladylike, she guided Scarlett Show to the fence where the others were watching. As she scanned their faces, she saw one in particular standing on the outside of the group propped against the railing. The one person she wanted to avoid. Lord Gardner. He was relaxed, arms easily crossed over his chest and a pleasing smile on his lips.
Sophia overheard Lord Gardner instruct a groom to add a railing, then with a nod to him she took the fence without a problem.
Minutes later, she rode the massive horse up to where everyone was watching only to see the earl walk up to her. Before she could say or do anything, Sophia found herself standing on the ground, his hands around her waist. His touch on her made her heart race. Would he be able to hear it beating in her chest? As his hand enveloped her she could feel a dampness between her thighs.

About the Author
In 2008 when I got two books published I thought it was due to skill; little did I know it was more luck than anything. Over the next three years I wrote, submitted, got rejected. I then did what I tell everyone who asks; I wrote some more. I didn’t give up.
More on a dare than anything I tried my hand at a regency, one of the most difficult genres because of the rules, which I might add I broke almost every one. Within two days of its release the book was on a best seller list and stayed there for two months.
Turns out it is all of the aforementioned.
After two failed marriages, one from divorce while with the other died unexpectedly I decided upon retirement to move. That opportunity came in September 2012 when I migrated to Texas.
For me, as a multipublished author, it was one of the best things I’ve done to date. Now, every day I can write, creating stories to take my readers to places they can only dream about.
I’m also a member of the Published Authors Network (PAN) by the Romance Writers of America (RWA).
